1.0 FEATURES
________________

The IBM Web Browser writes the location of the current profile
directory to the OS2.INI file every time it is started. The
application is "Mozilla", the key is "Home".

If you want to have your own image used on the splash screen,
place a bitmap named OS2WEB.BMP in the directory where
os2web.exe resides. The IBM Web Browser will use it as the
splash screen. The old Warpzilla splash screen is in the BIN
directory as WARPZILLA.BMP.

In addition, the IBM Web Browser provides the following:

- Tabbed browsing, enables you to view multiple Web pages
  in a single window.

- Bookmark groups, enables you to bookmark several Web pages
as a group, using one bookmark.

- Web site icons, enables you to have icons appear beside the URL
field, in bookmarks, and in tabs when using Tabbed Browsing.

- Full-screen mode, enables you to view the entire screen, giving
  you more viewing space.

- Download multiple files at once, enables you to download files,
and pause if needed, then resume downloading files.

- Download Manager, enables you to view status information on files
  downloaded.

- Save whole Web pages, enables you to save entire Web pages,
  including the graphics displayed.

- Click-to-Search, enables you to select text on a Web page then
use that text as a search argument.

- Sidebar Search Tooltips, enables you to view detailed
information on search requests, within the Search Sidebar tab.

- Print preview and Print setup, enables you to preview a page
before it prints and also control how it prints.

- Redesigned Top-level browsing menus, this ease-of-use feature
presents menus that are more intuitive. In addition, the Tools menu
includes Cookie Manager, Password Manager, Download Manager, and
  Form Manager.

- Drag and drop, provides drag and drop capability along with
  improved bookmark management.

1.1 Helper Applications
-----------------------

The IBM Web Browser uses Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME)
information from system and user mime.types and mailcap files if
the appropriate preferences are set. For example:

  user_pref("helpers.global_mailcap_file", "C:\\OS2\\mailcap");
  user_pref("helpers.global_mime_types_file", "C:\\OS2\\mime.types");
  user_pref("helpers.private_mailcap_file", "C:\\OS2\\mailcap");
  user_pref("helpers.private_mime_types_file", "C:\\OS2\\mime.types");

The mime.types file (global and private) specifies a mapping between a
MIME type and an extension.

For example:

  application/pdf pdf

The mailcap file (global and private) specifies a mapping between a
MIME type and an application.

For example:

  application/pdf;c:\acrobat3\reados2\acroread.exe

2.0 RESTRICTIONS
________________

The following sections describe the IBM Web Browser restrictions.

2.1 FAT (file allocation table) file system support
---------------------------------------------------
Because the IBM Web Browser requires long file names, it cannot be
installed on a FAT file system; however, you can install the IBM
Web Browser on a partition other than the partition where the
operating system resides. For example, your operating system might
reside on the C partition, which is a FAT partition, but you can
install Web Browser on the D partition, which is an HPFS (High
Performance File System) partition.

2.2 Unsupported elements
------------------------
The IBM Web Browser does not support the following:
- Netwatch
- Smart Update

3.0 LIMITATIONS
_______________

The following sections describe the IBM Web Browser limitations.

3.1 Netscape 4.61 Plug-ins
--------------------------
To use Netscape 4.61 Plug-ins, copy the files from the
NETSCAPE\PROGRAM\PLUGINS directory to the OS2WEB\PLUGINS
directory. The default installation location for Web
Browser is C:\OS2WEB.

In order to view MPEGs in the IBM Web Browser, you must
install the Netscape Plug-in pack with Netscape 4.61.

For information on supported plug-ins, go to the following
Web address:

http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/OS2.html

3.2 Viewing Web pages
---------------------
The IBM Web Browser supports the Internet standards set by
WWW Communications (www.W3C.com). Web pages that do not
comply with these standards might not display correctly.

3.3 Starting Web Browser after opening PDF files
----------------------------------------------------
If you open a PDF file with Adobe Acrobat Reader and then
close the IBM Web Browser, you must close Adobe Acrobat Reader
before you can run the IBM Web Browser again.

4.0 BEFORE YOU INSTALL WEB BROWSER
__________________________________

Before you install Web Browser V2.0.1, you must uninstall
any previous versions of Web Browser. If not uninstalled,
you might encounter a SYS2070 trap. If you do encounter a
SYS2070 trap condition, edit the config.sys file and set
the BEGINLIBPATH statement to point to where Web Browser
is installed.

5.0 USING JAVA APPLICATIONS WITH WEB BROWSER
____________________________________________

To use Java applications with the IBM Web Browser, you must have the
latest Java refresh that is available from IBM Software Choice.
If possible, install the IBM Web Browser before you install the
Java refresh. If you don't, refer to section 3.8.2 "Installing
the Java Plug-in After Installing IBM Web Browser
for OS/2" of the IBM OS/2 Warp Developer Kit, Java 2 Technology
Edition, 1.3 Installation and Configuration Guide for more information.

6.0 USING TCP/IP WITH WEB BROWSER
__________________________________

Use IBM TCP/IP Version 4.3.2 (CSD level UNx2205 or above), which includes
MPTS Version 6.01 (CSD level WRx8705 or above). To find out which level of
TCP/IP is installed, look at the SYSLEVEL.TCP entry in the SYSLEVEL output.
To find out which level of MTPS is installed, look at the SYSLEVEL.MPT
entry.

7.0 FASTER LOAD TIMES
_____________________

The IBM Web Browser provides a parameter called -turbo.
The -turbo parameter enables you to preload some parts of the
IBM Web Browser when your system restarts, causing the Web
Browser to load faster.

To use this feature, add an icon to your Startup folder that
invokes os2web.exe with the -turbo parameter specified.

You can also specify the -turbo parameter from an OS/2
command line as follows:

   os2web -turbo

To unload the IBM Web Browser after preloading it with -turbo, type the following:

   os2web -kill

8.0 NETSCAPE COMMUNICATOR ADDRESS BOOKS
_______________________________________

You cannot import address books from Netscape
Communicator 4.61 into the Web Browser.

9.0 PRINTING
_____________

If you encounter problems when you print, verify that you
have the latest driver for your printer.

10.0 TROUBLESHOOTING WEB BROWSER
________________________________

If you encounter a SYS2070 error when starting Web Browser,
set BEGINLIBPATH to point to the location of MOZILLA.EXE
before starting it.

If you are on a DBCS system and encounter system failures in
ASIACOL.DLL, exit Web Browser and rename ASIACOL.DLL in the OS2\DLL
directory to ASIACOL.BAK.

11.0 KIOSK MODE
_______________

Kiosk mode enables the IBM Web Browser to run in full-screen mode,
that is, the browser takes up the full screen, completely covering
up and limiting access to the desktop, task bar, title bar, start menu,
address bar, navigation bar, and most other controls normally present.
In this mode, the user sees only the Web page presented.

To enable kiosk mode, you must set a preference in the prefs.js file.
For example:

   user_pref("browser.kiosk_mode", true);

This setting enables the IBM Web Browser to run in kiosk mode for the
profile that has this line in its prefs.js file.

To use the IBM Web Browser without the sidebar present, follow
this approach:
  1. Start Web Browser.
  2. Remove the sidebar and set any other preferences you want.
  3. Set the preference (user_pref) in the prefs.js file.
